Say Hello to Vista Dodger

October 31, 2006

Since the focus here over the next few months will be on installing and using flavors of Linux, I thought Vista Dodger better describes what we’ll be doing here.

Sensible? You tell me.

The name could eventually morph into something else, once I’m fully ensconced in the world of the penguin. Perhaps Microsoft will provide more reasons to keep it an on-ging concern in perpetuity. We’ll see.

Memo: need a cool logo.

Reasons to Avoid Vista #0003

October 30, 2006

I haven’t been keeping track, so I’ll start the numbering low and build to a deafening crescendo. From Slashdot:

Ars Technica spoke with Microsoft concerning the controversial changes in Windows Vista’s licensing, and they have lerned that Vista will permit one “significant” hardware change before requiring users to either appeal to Microsoft support or purchase another license. Automatic re-activation online will fail after one use. Microsoft is using a new algorithm to monitor hardware changes and enforce licensing compliance, and the company says that it is more forgiving now than it was with Windows XP.”

It’s Not Sexy

October 30, 2006

The capital of Bavaria, Munich, has said that it intends to adopt Linux as the operating System of choice.

“The capital of Bavaria plans to complete its current migration of more than 80 percent of its desktop systems by 2008 and says that the first users of open software in the city’s administration are pleased with the initial results.”

Related to the adoption of Linux by many state and provincial governments, is the adoption of the Open Source Document Standard.

Coming soon to this site, there will be an in-depth tutorial on how you, too can adapt to Linux and the open software world, and be free from Windows for good. I will do the suffering, and you will reap the benefit of my sacrifice!

Naaaaah, it should no be that bad!

MySpace

October 15, 2006

Wired’s Lore Sjöberg sums it all up in MySpace, Now With Random Crap.

Granted, MuSpace is a truly useless phenomenon which only serves the corporate masters (eyeballs=unverified clicks=cash money) why the populace flirt, drink, play bad music and make the sexy talk; that is, generally behave like Eloi while the Morlocks fatten them up for supper.

But Lore serves it up like dish best served cold.
